Tell us something unique about the setup of your restaurant?

We are a very team oriented group. All of our specials, menus, and events are a collaboration from our crew. We work together to create unique, fresh, and unconventional ideas and dishes. We understand each facet plays an important role in the continuing development and evolution of The Burger Stand.

Tell us a fun or interesting fact about the restaurant?

Unknown to most, we are  primarily a female owned and operated company.

What are 3 ingredients you couldn’t live without?

Garlic, salt, and bitters. Garlic being such an important base and salt crucial for so many dishes, and bitters being the perfect finishing touch for an abundance of cocktails. 

We love plating. Does designing the perfect dish give you a rush?

I don’t know if we would describe it as a rush, but bartending and cooking alike are a form of art. A beautifully plated dish or an extravagantly garnished cocktail brings a sense of satisfaction. It is a finished work of art, and you get to share that “expression” with someone else.

What’s one of the most creative dishes you’ve created?

Funnily enough, our chef Chris’s brat special. Beer brat, honey lemon labneh, grilled shishito, sunflower & garlic aioli and toasted nori.

Most recently, we have won Best Burger in Topeka the last four years, and we are currently nominated for Best Burger and Best Outdoor Dining for this year. 

What are some of the latest trends you’re seeing in top restaurants? What are your thoughts on CBD-infused dishes?

Latest trends, my goodness so many. CBD infused dishes and beverages, kelp/seaweed, lab grown meat and/or vegetable protein sources, oat milk, paleo and keto options, quick service, delivery through third party affiliates. CBD-infused dishes have barely touched the surface, it is like anything else a trend, but we are definitely ready to see what comes of it and to explore ourselves. 

Where have you traveled that inspires you the most?

Most of us have actually spent most of our time within the states and very close to home; our home inspires us. Midwesterners love food, whiskey, beer, and the raw form of connection by breaking bread or sharing a drink. It is what we live for.

What’s your favorite cocktail?

This is a hard one, Jameson is a go to for us at our establishment. As for a go to cocktail, then I would say a Last Word or Aviation. Both are classics, but simple and always enjoyable.

What do you love about working at The Burger Stand at College Hill?

We all agreed, the freedom to create. We are a locally owned and operated company, and our owners and managers have given us an incredibly empowering environment that we thrive in.
