We had exhausted just about all of the higher-end dining options in Mont Tremblant during our stay and we just weren't quite satisfied. Yet. Don't let this deter you from visiting Mont Tremblant, it was most likely because it was late autumn, not primetime-ski season that the resort is known for.
I had repeatedly seen Altitude come up in Google search results, but continued to question just how great it could be given its location—in a casino.
As we ascended the elevator to Altitude Restaurant, we took in the ambiance of the massive glass-walled dining room reminiscent of a mountain lodge, yet offering a stunning modern aesthetic and interpretation.
We were shown to our seat which luckily happened to be out on the extensive glass terrace, overlooking the Laurentians and beyond. Complete with comfy love seats and ornamental privacy screens, we took our seat. Next, came a couple glasses of champagne.
Thrilled with the atmosphere, view and the fresh scent of the mountain valley, we had a hard time deciding between a few different dishes. All of which, in description, rivaled world-class restaurants in cosmopolitan cities.
We started off with Atlantic rock shrimp over puréed passion fruit glacé and succulent raspberries. Amazing.
And salmon tartare with puffed rice over cuttlefish ink and royal jelly—topped with shrimp tempura. Superb.
Pan-seared giant sea scallops with blood pudding, apple mustard, parsnip purée with Frangelico liqueur and grilled hazelnuts. Divine.
First impressions are EVERYTHING. And wow, we were definitely not disappointed in this department.
There are a couple of different options to arrive other than driving yourself that you can choose from: a complimentary scenic shuttle will pick you up at the base or you can opt for the casino express gondola. We chose the shuttle as the gondola is only available during the winter months. Our driver, as friendly as ever, was so accommodating that he would even pull over if he saw someone attempting to take a picture of the scenery. That alone easily got him his well-earned tip on our quick return trip back to the village.
We can't wait to come back!
